NATIONAL PARK OF CZECH SWITZERLAND and PROTECTED LANDSCAPE AREA (CHKO) ELBE´S SANDSTONES and (partly) PROTECTED LANDSCAPE AREA (CHKO) LUSATIAN MOUNTAINS

NATIONAL PARK CZECH SWITZERLAND and CHKO ELBE´S SANDSTONES (LABSKÉ PÍSKOVCE) include area of Decín´s highlands, that is formed by mainly secondary ashlar sandstones with penetrations of tertiary volcanic rocks. Large amount of rocky formations, which originated by erosion´s effort of water and wind on the sandstone´s lower wall, rocky towns and labyrinths, deeply cutting valleys or rivers Elbe and Kamenice make region of Jetrichovice very attractive for all admirers of virgin nature, for tourists, hihers and climbers. On the sandstone ridges occur remains of pinewoods and entire series of protected sorts of herbs.

Area is made up mostly from cretaceous secondary sedimentary rocks. Later volcanic activity broke even 1 km stout sandstone´s table by system of shifts. Further million years physiognomy of landscape was modeled by various erosive powers. To the basic shapes of terrain belongs valleys with forms of gorges and canyons embosomed with sandstone towers and massives here and there making up rocky towns and labyrinths. Canyon Elbe between town Decín and border village Hrensko represents unique natural formation. Among important affluents of river Elbe belongs stream Kamenice whose gorges (Wild and Silent) visitors can pass by boats and stream Krinice. Flora is genericly contingent on sandstone under-nutrient bed and is bounded by extreme temperature ranges and also water deficiency. On the tertiary basaltic and znelec´s eruptive rocks habit flowery beech woods in which underwood we can find for example kycelnice devítilistá (Dentaria enneaphyllos), lýkovec jedovatý (mezereon, february daphne) (Daphne mezereum) or marinka vonná (woodruff) (Asperula odorata). Cold-loved flora is represented by vranec jedlový (Fir Clubmoss) (Huperzia selago), violka dvoukvetá (Viola biflora) or žebrovice různolistá (hard-fern) (Blechnum spicant). Dingles and walls of wet rocks are overgrown by rare and significant rojovník bahenní (Labrador-tea) (Ledum palustre) and by great numbers of mosses and liver-plants, among moss-plants we find large amount of interesting genera - for example drípovicník zperený (luminous moss), chudozubník Brownův or krepenka bledá. Variety of whole area enables existence of whole range of animals at relatively small area. Numerous is quarry - especially deer, venison and black game. Common are also foxes and pine martens, characteristic inhabitants of rocks are shrews and dormouses. Again there is affected rys ostrovid (eurasian lynx) (Lynx lynx), who as original game of our woods deserves broad protection. By the brooks live lednácek rícní (kingfisher) (Alcedo atthis), konipas horský (mountain wagtail) (Motacilla cinerea) and skorec vodní (dipper) (Cinclus cinclus). Among seven genera of owls we can find for example: výr velký (eagle owl) (Bubo bubo), kulíšek nejmenší (eurasian pygmy owl) (Glaucidium passerinum) or sýc rousný (boreal owl) (Aegolius funereus). Every year are nesting 2-3 pairs of cáp cerný (black stork) (Ciconia negra), further genera of birds found refuge in the rocks.

Declared by ordinance of Department of culture CSSR from the 20.1.1969 under reference number 13 365/68-II/2 about establishment of state natural reservation "Vápenka". Into the category natural reservation was transfered by decree of Department of environment CR nr. 395/92 collection of acts (Sb.), about execution of some provisions of act nr. 114/92 Sb., about protection of nature and landscape. This reservation is remarkable by its completely unique joint occurrence of five different types of rocks. On touch of granite rocks of Lusatian pluton with sandstones were ejected small block masses of Jurassic sedimentary rocks with Permian rocks. In tertiary period through Jurassic sedimentary rocks broke to surface basaltic eruptive rock. Islets of Jurassic limestones are sole occurrence of this rocks in whole Bohemia and in past there were discovered many casts of sea animals. Rich geological bed generates good conditions for evolution of interesting biotops. In secondary spruce-fir wood was keeped old beech-wood with javor klen (Sycamore) (Acer pseudoplatanus), lípa srdcitá (linden) (Tilia cordata), pine (Pinus sylvestris) and jasan ztepilý (ash) (Fraxinus excelsior). Into the category of national natural relic was transfered by decree of Department of environment CR nr. 395/92 collection of acts, about execution of some provisions of act nr. 114/92 Sb., about protection of nature and landscape. Basaltic pile (657 m) east of village Líska. On eastearn and southern shoulder was by stone qarring in sixties of 20th century (for its immunity used also by construction sea-walls - for example in Netherlands) discovered inner structure of body with regular columnar separation. Even 30 m high columns of olivinic basalt are in the middle of formation vertical, in the direction of edges of formation its declination verges into horiznothal bearing. A sort of giant flapper is formed, whose wall is here and there overhanging. Top of pile is overlaid by younger basaltic cloak without columnar separation. After declaration of protected area was stone qarring halted and main quarry wall remained conserved. Agreeably to some volcanologists Zlatý vrch is more valuable formation then famous Panská skála near Kamenický Šenov. In surroundings sojourn sometimes izards. Total area 4,13 ha.

Natural relic Louka u Brodských

In December 1997 was declared this unique humid meadow for natural relic. On its territory were found 158 species of superior herbs, among them assert themselves genera growing in wet localities such as štírovník bažinný (Greater Bird's-foot-trefoil) (Lotus uliginosus) or sítina ostrokvetá (Sharp-flowered Rush) (Juncus acutifolius). From orchids there grows aside from prstnatec májový (Northern Marsh-orchid) (Dactylorhiza majalis) also bradácek vejcitý (Common Twayblade) (Listera ovata), vyskytuje se zde také turice Davallova (Vignea davalliana). Along the road expand some kinds of weeds - for example pelynek cernobýl (mugwort, sailor's tobacco) (Artemisia vulgaris), merlík bílý (fat han) (Chenopodium album), petour and species influenced by human´s activity such as ostrice srstnatá (rush) (Carex). At meadow live also interesting fauna - for example myška drobná (tiny mouselet) and some genera of kobylky (grasshoppers) such as kobylka horská (mountain grasshopper) (Pholidoptera aptera) or kobylka hnedá (brown grasshopper). Territory of natural relic has great aesthetic value, especially by spring, when large amount of blooming orchids make impress of violet carpet. Total area ?.

Marschnerova louka is situated about 1 km north of Dolní Chribská by hamlet Lišcí Belidlo (Vulpine bleaching ground). By end of 1995 was declared natural reservation named after great amateurish botanist of Šluknovský elongation Mr. Marschner. From botanical viewpoint the Marschner´s meadow is unique (nonsuch). In shallow valley (flowed pass through by three brooklets) are centred rich herbs-communities. We can find there quaggy and wetland´s meadow too, plant covers with dominative bent-grasses and also drier biotops. In 1996 there was found 234 generas of superior herbs. From spring to autumn there occurs rich scale of blooming generas, among them are important for example gnat-flower´s herbs: prstnatec májový (Northern Marsh-orchid) (Dactylorhiza majalis), prstnatec fuchsův (Common Spotted-orchid) (Dactylorhiza fuchsii) and kruštík bahenní (Marsh Helleborine) (Epipactis palustris). From protected genera there grow also suchopýry (Eriophoria), vachta trojlistá (bogbean) (Menyanthes trifoliata) a turice Davallova (Vignea davalliana). Thanks to abundant rainfall are strongly represented subatlantic genera - for example sítina ostrokvetá (Sharp-flowered Rush) (Juncus acutiflorus) or štírovník bažinný (Greater Bird's-foot-trefoil) (Lotus uliginosus), sporadically occur warm-loved species with central-european expansion - f.e. smolnicka obecná (Viscaria vulgaris). To the varied mosaic of vegetative emplacements are tied also various genera of animals. We can name kobylka horská (mountain grasshopper) (Pholidoptera aptera), sarance (locust) (Chorthippus pullus), mandelinka (leaf beetles) (Colorado), from birds strnad obecný (bunting) (Emberiza citrinella) or crvcilka rícní (Locustella fluviatilis) and from tiny mammals f.e. tiny mouselet. Director of NP CS is RNDr. Zdenek Patzelt. Contact person - chief of department for contact with public - is Mgr. Petr Bouška.

In 2001 National park Czech Switzerland was declared in the most valuable parts of Elbe´s sandstones on the part of territory before protected as CHKO Elbe´s sandstone. Its total area is about 79 km2 . National park is divided into 3 zones, which sorted territory of national park according to level of probity, valuables, importance and also are considered needs of answerable human.

1.zone (socalled core or quiescent) includes area with the most significant natural worths. In Czech Switzerland this zone is made up from substantial part from inaccessible terrains of sheer rocks and narrow dingles, where the human in the past couldn´t pursue any activity. Therefore there is the highest potential of preserved ingenuous values.

2.zone (with controlled interference in sense of care) includes area with significant natural worths. There are mainly by human stigmatized forestry and agricultural ecosystems desirable to limited and considerate forestry or agricultural utilization. Aim is maintenance of natural balance, the widest restitution of former generic diversity and progressive approach of ecosystems to ingenuous natural communities.

3.zone includes areas of by human heavily altered ecosystems and centres of concentrated estate. Aim is accordingly to function of NP to keep and suitably suppport utilization of this zone for permanent housing, services, agriculture, forestry, tourism and recreation.

With regard its location NP CS become partner of already 8 years existing National parku Sächsische Schweiz (Saxon Switzerland) with area about 94 km2, that follows with NP Czech Switzerland along state border. In south and northeast spans the territory of NP CS Chránená krajinná oblast Labské pískovce (Protected landscape territory Elbe´s sandstones) (www.decin.space.cz/chkolp), declared in 1972 (total area 245 km2). In the east follows up Chránená krajinná oblast Lužické hory (http://www.schkocr.cz/chran_luzicke-hory.htm) decalared in 1975 (total area 267 km2).

NATURAL BEAUTIES OF CZECH SWITZERLAND

From letter of Ing. Petr Kmínek into regional bulletin Ceská silnice:

Hardly anywhere in Bohemia we have from one place chance to see whole geological history of region just as for example at Všemilské pláne (Všemily´s plains, in german Folga) by Jetrichovice. Růžák (Rosy hill) commemorates volcanic Ceské Stredohorí (Bohemian Centralmountains), Studenec (Cold hill) long drawn hills of Šumava, Kolište north of Jetrichovice by its form commemorates us sharp ridges of Krkonoše (Giant mountains), Rudolfův kámen (Rudolf´s stone) is even bigger then peak crags of Krkonoše or Jeseníky. Village Vysoká Lípa crouched below Zámecký vrch (Castle´s hill) commemorates "Povltaví" (region of river Vltava), village Rynartice are nestled close to Krížový vrch (Cross hill) as though it would be painted by czech painter Josef Lada. It looks like Cross hill protected Rynartice against demonic Studenec (Cold hill), even thought village Rynartice has only 350 m elevation above sea-level it is "typical" mountain village and there is also no need to show on "chalets" Na Tokání. Jetrichovice´s walls consist of cliffs Havraní kameny (Raven´s stones), Mariina skála (Maria´s rock) and Vilemínina stena (Vilemína´s wall) and form monumental fence, beyond it the civilization tampered usualy only in day time and a few of habitants (foresters, lumberjacks, charcoal producers...) of wild rocky babylons was actually only adventurers or anchorites. So demonicly elements commemorate there harmless gentile era of human and nature commemorates us history far deeper and obvious - clear of human. And also in more recent ages - warlike - rather rocky caverns than castles protected local population. When we climb down from hills and rocks we find in this region not only arid shady dingles but also rocky canyons through which roll hurry-scurry and vertiginously water elements. Rivers in this region are anomalous - the biggest declivity they have on lowerwaters as if they hurry into the "pension" - into the calm stream of river Labe (Elbe) and as if they would like before that to tell something important by their murmur. Here and there canyons open up themselves into the large meadows and rivers slowly meander through greewood as though they relax before next canyon. Where else than here (if he would walk there) may have flash Josef Kajetán Tyl words of our national anthem "... water roars through grasslands, pinewoods hum through rocks..." ?
